These are salty-licorice (salmiak) balls. They have a black licorice shell with a soft, chewy salmiak centre.
Salmiak or salty licorice (especially Dutch style) is quite intense and an “acquired taste”.
The intriguing taste is made with pure licorice extract, anise and salmiak.
If you like strong licorice or salty/savoury sweets, you'll likely enjoy them. If you prefer mild sweets, use caution.
Pairing suggestion: a milder drink (e.g., tea or coffee) can help balance the strong flavour.
